SHAMANISM SHUAR
AWARENESS PROGRAM
TO THE SHAMANIC SHUAR MEDICINE - 4 Days
Run by the well-known Shamans of the Uwishin Shuar Council (CUWISH)

Aims of this program
To Make people discover the
Shuar Shamanic Medicine and his healing,  stabilizing and liberating power produced by the  Natem creeper  or  « Ayahuasca » and other plants.
For the amateurs, it is possible to taste the Natem, supervised by professional and responsible Shamans who guarantee the security.

Day 1:  QUITO * MACAS or PUYO * AMAZONIA: ARAPICO * SUCUA 
In the morning, transfer to the airport and recommended flight (optional) around midday to Amazonia (30 min), to the city of Macas and transfer to the shamanic CUWISH Center of Arapico, near the city of Sucúa.

or Departure from Quito early in the morning on a public bus (about 8 hours) or in a private car (optional) to  the south  Amazonian region  , province of Morona Santiago to the city of Sucúa, going through an incredible variety of Andean and tropical landscapes. In a private transport, possible to stop in a the tiny hot spring city of Baños (and if possible, quick thermal bath) then lunch in Puyo. Arrival in the afternoon in Sucua, and then transfer to the « Finca » of Arapico. Settling in a traditional Shuar cabin, situated on the Arapico river banks. Welcome Cocktail or tropical juice, rest and/or free tour in the surrounding area. Possible bath in the river, typical dinner and tour in the city of Sucua and introduction to our Shuar Shaman: Ricardo Tsakimp, and first presentation of the Shuar culture and medicine. Night at the shamanic CUWISH Center

Day 2 : ARAPICO * SUCUA: SHAMANISM
Traditional breakfast and explanation of the program of the day.
Walk in the rain forest (from 2 to 5 hours) and crossing the rivers to the Upano river (level and duration of the walk are adapted to your physical condition) having your first contact with nature, then watching plants and medicinal trees. Bath. Coming back to the camp, traditional Shuar lunch « Ayampaco » and rest. Then, presentation by the Shaman of the SHuar History, customs and clothing. Traditional tattoo, and allocation of a “Shuar name”. Exchanges about origins of the traditional Shuar medicine. Dinner  and  transfer to Sucúa  to observe the ceremony of the Shaman to cure the patients  using natural Shuar medicine. In option and in case of illness or problem: Shaman’s medical and/or emotional treatment.  Night at the Shamanic Centre.

Day 3 : ARAPICO * NATEM (optional) 
 For those who may want, it is possible to take medicinal plants with vomit side-effects or “piripi”. Breakfast and exchanges, comments on the ceremony and medical treatments of the previous day and explanation of the side-effects, the philosophy and the different types of healing treatments.  
Walk through the fields, the orchards and the « tolas » (hills built by pre-Columbian population) of the Shamanic Center, in order to know fruit trees, local farm products and their use, to a giant tree that invites you to meditate. Discover the rain forest. Vegetarian light lunches, and rest. Preparation of the Natem or Ayahuasca, then introduction of other sacred plants and explanation of the Natem ceremony. Meditation time and swim in the river. For those who may want, it is possible to take Natem in the evening. Night

Day  4: ARAPICO * PUYO * QUITO ou MACAS * QUITO
Swim in the river. Breakfast, exchange and conversation about having taken the Natem, comments, impressions. Then, presentation of Mythes and Legends of the Shuar people and of the “Beings of Nature” .Meditation then walk and a quick swim in the sacred cascade. Last traditional goodbye lunch.
Then choice between:

Option 1: Transfer to Sucúa or Macas and come back to Quito on a public bus.    
Or flight to Quito (optional) at around 13h00 or 14h00.

Option 2 : In a private transport, coming back to the Andes to the tropical region of Puyo, in Los Yapas botanical « Quinta » and recuperation of regional vegetation and fish farming . Visit of the flower plantations to the river and observation of tropical plants, trees, fruit trees, orchids etc.. Dinner and night. 

Option 3 : Rest or other activities in the afternoon and, in the evening,  second take of Natem to complete the purification.

Including in the  program :

  1. « Home-made »  drinks and meals with organic vegetables and fruits grown by the Shamanic CUWISH Center of Arapico and of la Quinta Los Yapas

     (or vegetarian meals on request)

  1. Activities and excursions mentioned in the program
  2. Transfers and transport depending on the option
  3. Collaboration, presentations and assistance while taking the Natem of the famous Shaman Ricardo Tsakim and his partners (1 shaman for 3 or 4 perople)
  4. French-speaking experienced guide or  interpreter assistance  - - --- boots (to 43)

 

Not included :

  1. Other services, drinks (sodas, beers, alcohol..)
  2. Transport from Quito to Macas by bus or by plane (see flight prices below (for option 1 and 2)
  3. tips for the employees
