PROGRAM

Visit of the historic and colonial center of Quito, classified by UNESCO as “World Cultural Heritage“. Visit the Main Square, the Independence Square, the Cathedral and the San Francisco Square and its church, monastery and the spectacular Compañía de Jesús church founded by the Jesuits. By car, go up the hill Panecillo to have a magnificent view of Quito and its surroundings. And visit the museum of the Capilla del Hombre of the famous artist Oswaldo Guayasamín or visit the monument of Ecuador or the museum Intiñan ethno-scientific . Overnight in a charming 2/3 star hotel in the old center.

After breakfast, depart for the beautiful Andean region of Otavalo. On the road, possible stop and visit the pre-Inca pyramids of Coshasquí and/or panoramic stop at San Pablo Lake. Then visit the most famous native market of South America: Otavalo, which brings together all the typical Ecuadorian textiles and handicrafts. Overnight in a small hotel in Otavalo or in its region.

After breakfast, transfer down of Fuya Fuya volcano, then hike and climb to its summit (14 000 ft) and its magnificent panoramic view of Mojanda lagoons . Lunch-box. Continuing north up to the San Clemente Aboriginal community. Dinner and overnight at a family home.

After breakfast, transfer to the Zuleta area and hike on the Cubiliche Mountain (12 550 ft) and appreciate beautiful rural landscapes. Lunch-box. Then drive along the Avenue of Volcanoes to Latacunga region. Dinner and overnight at an inn near Latacunga.

After breakfast, short drive to the spectacular Quilotoa crater lake. Possible stop at Pujuli or Zumbagua local market (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday). Long hike around crater Quilotoa (13 120 ft) and possible descent to the edge of the lake. Dinner and overnight in a community inn.

After breakfast, trekking from Quilotoa to the village of Tigua or Chugchilan. Crossing a geological Zumbahua fault and the Toachi River Canyon. Box lunch. Drive to the city of Riobamba also known as “Sultan of the Andes“ (at 9 000 ft). Overnight in a small hotel in Riobamba.

After breakfast, transfer to Achupallas and hiking following the old Ecuadorian system “Inca Trail“ up to a village in order to charge the camping equipment on mules. And continue riding. Box lunch. And set up the first campment. Dinner and night in a tent.

After breakfast, continue your hiking following the Inca Trail between the two mountains “Callana Pucara“ and “Mapahuina“ and following the sheep flock on the edge of Cadrul River and box lunch watching a beautiful Andean landscape. Arrival at the “Tres Cruces” lagoon and set up the second camp. Dinner and night stay in tent.

After breakfast, trekking up to the Culebrillas lake, enjoying spectacular views of the Inca ruins of the ancient Inca Trail. Box lunch. Arrival on the Espindola site and stop at the Inca ruins of “Paredones“. Then set up the third camp. Dinner and night in tent

After breakfast, end of the trek of the Inca Trail and arriving at Ingapirca: the most important ruins and Inca temple in Ecuador. Visit to the Inca and Cañari archaeological sites, where these 2 ethnics fight and lived hundred years ago and considered as an important religious site for the Incas. Box lunch or typical local lunch. Drive to Baños, a charming city well known for its thermal waters and pools and the close by majestic Tungurahua volcano (16,450 ft). Night stay in a hotel in Baños.

After breakfast, take a guided tour of Baños to discover beautiful sites such as the Basilica and the local market. Visit of a beautiful garden of orchids and excursion along the “Waterfall’s Road” with the possibility of crossing the river Pastaza in “tarabita“ then walk to the famous and an impressive cascade of Pailon Del Diablo. In the afternoon, visit of an artisanal workshops to learn how to make balsa wood and on Tagua (Vegetal ivory) carving and marshmallow, the local products. Possible bath in the famous Banos hot spring pools. Night stay in the same hotel.

After breakfast, departure to the Cotopaxi volcano. Excursion in the Cotopaxi National Park. Hiking around the Limpiopungo Lake or farther. Climb to the Jose Rivas refuge from 14765 feet up to 15,748 feet, enjoying a magnificent view of the cordillera and the park. Return to Quito. Night stay in a charming hotel in Quito or close to the airport or transfer to Quito airport and flight back home.
